About Hudu Radar

Introduction

Hudu Radar scans available networks to gather information about networks and connected devices, then syncs that information into Hudu. It's an optional product for Hudu users, designed to offer insights into network environments with ease. Radar scans are performed by a collector installed on each network, and Radar is activated, managed, and monitored per company from within Hudu.

Version 2.39.4 required to enable Radar.

Note: If Hudu is configured without SSL (a No-SSL setup) while using Hudu Radar, you may encounter an “invalid code” error. Radar requires secure HTTPS communication for proper token validation. Enabling SSL on the Hudu instance resolves this issue.

The Hudu Radar Service is a silent background service that performs the same actions as Hudu Radar without the application interface needing to be open. If desired, scans can always be run from the Hudu Radar Service, meaning no configuration is needed within the Hudu Radar app.

The Hudu Radar Agent is an optional silent background service that runs on each device in your network. It collects device data and routes it to the collector, which then forwards it to Hudu. Agents do not send information directly to Hudu, ensuring secure and centralized communication. The agent can be used if the collector is not able to gather enough information about devices over the network.

Managing Radar in Hudu

Radar is managed from the Hudu Radar section in Hudu's navigation. From there you can:

  • Activate Radar for a company, or remove Radar from a company.
  • Connect discovered networks to Radar.
  • View network scans and detected devices for each company.
  • Choose the location where Radar data is stored.

Detected devices that are running the Hudu Radar Service or Hudu Radar Agent are identified as such, so you can tell which device is doing the scanning or reporting.

Key Features

  • Automatically discover and create networks within Hudu.
  • Automatically discover, create, and update IP addresses within Hudu.
  • Automatically map networks and network devices within Hudu.
  • Run multiple collectors for a single company to cover separate locations and non-routable networks. See Multi-Collector Support below.
  • Automatically create assets for network devices within Hudu, containing the device information from the table below.
    • New assets are automatically related to the IP addresses they belong to, making relationships clear in Related Items.
  • Receive alerts for Radar events such as offline devices, new devices, and failed scans (v2.47). See Radar Alerts below.

Hudu Radar Network Maps

If a company uses Hudu Radar, a new Map section will appear in that company’s IPAM tab menu. This section displays a network map that is automatically created and updated by Hudu Radar. At this time, the map cannot be edited manually.

Note:

  • The Map section is only available for companies using Hudu Radar.

  • Companies that do not use Hudu Radar will not see the Map section in IPAM.

  • If a company stops using Hudu Radar, the map will be automatically removed.

  • If a company has multiple collectors, the map combines all of them and labels each item with the collector it was discovered by.

When viewing the map:

  • Clicking a network opens the network preview.

  • If an asset exists for an item on the map, clicking that item will open the asset preview.

  • Items that are discovered but not synced to Hudu will still show in the map with a tooltip that the item has not been synced to Hudu.

Multi-Collector Support

Hudu Radar supports multiple collectors for a single company. This makes it easier to manage customers with separate locations and non-routable networks. Each location can run its own collector while keeping networks, devices, scans, and network maps organized under the same Hudu company.

  • When connecting a network to Radar, select which collector the network belongs to.
  • Each collector can be linked to a location asset in Hudu.

If you already have Radar running and need to move existing adapters onto separate collectors, see Migrating Existing Adapters into Collectors.

Radar Alerts

Version 2.47 required for Radar alerts.

Radar alerts notify you when something changes on a Radar-monitored network, such as a device going offline, a new device being detected, an agent not checking in, or a scan being overdue or failing. Radar alerts are configured in Admin → Alerts.

Visit Hudu Radar Alerts for additional information on setting up Radar alerts.
