Q: What is Hudu Radar?

Answer: Hudu Radar is a desktop external application that allows you to easily scan available networks to gather information about both the network and any devices on the networks. It is an additional product offering available to Hudu users for purchase. Hudu Radar can detect the following device information: IP address, type, MAC address, vendor, name, domain, OS, serial number, model, CPUs, disks, last login user, uptime, and interfaces. Hudu Radar is available for Windows 10+ and Windows Server 2016+.

Q: What is the Hudu Radar Agent?

Answer: The Hudu Radar Agent is a silent external application that will provide device information that could not be collected over the network by Hudu Radar. The Hudu Radar Agent is available for Windows 10+ and Windows server 2016+. We plan to add support for MacOS and Linux in the future. 

Q: What is the difference between Hudu Radar and the Hudu Radar Agent?

Answer: Hudu Radar is a required application meant to be installed on one device to collect device information over the network. The Hudu Radar Agent is an optional application to provide device information that Hudu Radar is unable to collect on its own. It is meant to be installed on any compatible device within the network being scanned by Hudu Radar.

Q: Do I need Hudu Radar and the Hudu Radar Agent?

Answer: Not necessarily. The Hudu Radar Agent is only needed if Hudu Radar is not able to collect enough device information over the network. The Hudu Radar Agent should only be installed on the devices that are not running Hudu Radar.

Q: Is Hudu Radar available for both hosted and self-hosted instances?

Answer: Yes, Hudu Radar is available for both hosted and self-hosted users.

Q: Is there an additional cost to use Hudu Radar?

Answer: Yes; Hudu Radar is an additional product offering from Hudu. Licenses cost $10 per company/month billed monthly, or $9 per company/month billed annually. Hudu Super Admins can view the current Hudu Radar license count by navigating to Admin > License Key. Hudu Radar licenses can be purchased via Hudu HQ. Each license includes unlimited networks and devices.

Q: Once purchased, how can I access Hudu Radar?

Answer: Admins and above can enable Hudu Radar in the External Apps section of their Hudu Admin page. Once enabled, they will be able to download the Hudu Radar installer and disperse the application to their team as needed.

Q: Once purchased, how can I access the Hudu Radar Agent?

Answer: Once Hudu Radar completes an initial scan of a network, the download for the Hudu Radar Agent will be available within the Radar-connected network details page of Hudu.

Q: Is there a limit to how many devices can use Hudu Radar?

Answer: One license of Hudu Radar can be used per company. Hudu Radar is licensed per company. Unlimited instances of the Hudu Radar Agent can be used per company, provided Hudu Radar has been licensed for said company.

Q: How often does Hudu Radar scan devices?

Answer: Hudu Radar scans devices every 35 minutes. The Hudu Radar Agent sends device data every 15 minutes.

Q: Why is a device unable to be sent to Hudu?

Answer: A device may be unable to be sent to Hudu if Hudu Radar is unable to collect enough device information to satisfy the device requirements or the device matches an existing asset in Hudu that is not using the asset layout the device type is mapped to in the Hudu Radar admin settings.

Q: Does editing the device requirements affect any devices that have already been sent to Hudu? For example, if serial number was not required but now it is, will the devices sent to Hudu prior to that change retroactively need to have a serial number?

Answer: Yes, to continue syncing with Hudu, prior devices must meet the current minimum requirements.

Q: How do I manually scan a network?

Answer: You can trigger an individual network scan by going to Hudu Radar → Settings → Networks. Find the network you’d like to scan and click the refresh icon button by the network name.

Q: Is Hudu Radar activity included in admin activity logs?

Answer: Any action that Hudu Radar performs on your Hudu instance, such as creating or updating assets, is recorded in the admin activity logs. However, actions unrelated to your Hudu instance, such as background scan activity, are not logged.

Q: If I have networks in my Hudu instance already, then I set up Hudu Radar and Hudu Radar discovers those same networks, will duplicate networks be created in my Hudu instance?

Answer: Hudu Radar will match existing networks on the CIDR Range. If a network matches, a duplicate will not be created.

Q: Does Hudu Radar require admin rights?

Answer: No, but the installer will require admin permissions as it installs for all users on the computer.

Q: How do I update Hudu Radar?

Answer: Hudu Radar can be updated in two ways. First, within the Hudu Radar section in the core app under Settings. Second, by downloading and running the latest installer from the External Apps section of the Hudu Admin page. The Hudu Radar Agent can be updated by downloading and running the latest installer from the details page of a Hudu Radar–connected network in Hudu.
