Welcome to Hudu!

   Welcome to Hudu!

We're so glad you found us. Whether you're brand new to Hudu or just revisiting the fundamentals, this is your starting line — read on to learn what Hudu is and exactly where to go next.

This article introduces what Hudu is, why teams rely on it, and how it can be hosted — and most importantly, it points you to a clear, step-by-step path for getting your instance up and running.

New to the platform? After this article, we recommend reading Key Concepts and Your Hudu Environment to build a strong foundation.

What is Hudu?

Hudu is powerful, customizable documentation software built for IT professionals. It's the platform where your team stores and manages asset information and credentials, writes and shares knowledge base (KB) articles, and monitors website details and expirations — all while giving you the process tools to keep documentation standardized and workflows consistent.

Information in Hudu is primarily organized into separate spaces, but the platform also comes loaded with global features that let you store and reuse KB articles and processes, and easily monitor client websites, expirations, assets, and more across your whole environment.

Hudu is a web-based application with two ways to run it: host it yourself (self-hosted) or let us handle the infrastructure with our Magic Cloud (hosted) solution. More on that below.

Why use Hudu?

Documentation beats conversation. Written, standardized, connected documentation scales in a way that tribal knowledge never can.

Here's what teams get out of Hudu:

  • Store, consolidate, and standardize information. Document every aspect of your clients' and internal IT infrastructure in your own standardized way. Store and connect devices, credentials, and existing documentation inside Hudu's flexible, multi-space platform.
  • Scale with growing IT environments. Keeping everything in your head stopped being sustainable a long time ago. Hudu gives you a secure platform to merge, track, and manage that complexity while enabling real team collaboration.
  • Manage your processes. Build reusable checklists — called processes — for standard operating procedures, onboarding, and repeatable tasks. Run them against the assets they apply to, track technician progress step by step, and share real-time status links so clients can follow along.
  • Combine your stack. Integrations connect Hudu to the third-party tools you already use, turning it into your team's central information hub.
  • Maintain transparency with end-users. Hudu's external share portal and quick-share links let you give clients a secure window into their documentation, or safely send along credentials and helpful KB articles.

Hosting options

Hudu offers two hosting models so you can choose what fits your team:

  • Magic Cloud (hosted) — we host and manage the infrastructure for you.
  • Self-hosted — you run Hudu on your own server or cloud provider, giving you full control over the environment.

Visit Trial and Pricing Information for a full breakdown of the differences between our hosted and self-hosted versions.
