Hudu Password Manager

The Hudu Password Manager is a standalone browser extension that brings your Hudu passwords directly into your browser. It lets you fill credentials on websites, save new logins to Hudu or your My Vault, and generate strong passwords, all without opening your Hudu instance. If you only need password functionality and not the full Hudu Assist side panel, the Hudu Password Manager is the extension for you.

Visit Hudu Assist (Browser Extension), Password Management, and My Vault for additional information on related features.

Guides

Installing the Hudu Password Manager

The first step to using the Hudu Password Manager is the installation. You can install the extension from the following links:

Firefox browser (coming soon)

Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Vivaldi, Brave, Microsoft Edge)

If installing on other browsers, you will need to turn on the option to install from other stores, otherwise you will not see an install button.

If utilizing the Firefox extension, you will need to first accept the permissions.

Quick tip! Pin the extension with the key icon to your browser's toolbar so you can access it faster.

Connecting your Hudu instance

The first time you open the extension, you'll be prompted to enter your Hudu host. Enter your Hudu instance URL, or paste any URL from your Hudu dashboard. Once entered, log in with your Hudu credentials to connect the extension to your environment.

Saving a new password

When you enter credentials on a website, the helper icon will prompt you to save the new login to a specific company or to your My Vault.

  1. Enter your username and password on the website as you normally would.
  2. When prompted by the helper icon, choose Save.
  3. Select the company the password belongs to, or choose My Vault for personal credentials.
  4. Confirm the details and save. The password is now stored in Hudu and available anywhere you're logged in.

Saving new passwords from your browser is only available in the Hudu Password Manager. The Hudu Assist extension can view, copy, and generate passwords, but new logins are saved through the Hudu Password Manager.

Filling credentials on websites

When you visit a website with a matching credential stored in Hudu, the helper icon will appear in the login fields. Click the icon to fill your username and password.

For a credential to be matched and filled on a website, the password record in Hudu must have the website's URL saved in its URL field.

Tools

The Hudu Password Manager is organized into four main areas. Expand each section below to learn more.

Company

Select the company you're currently working in. This scopes the passwords shown in the extension and determines where new passwords are saved by default. Password visibility follows your existing Hudu permissions.

My Vault

Access your personal vault of saved passwords. My Vault credentials are private to you and can be filled on websites just like company passwords.

Visit My Vault for additional information on your personal password vault.

Generator

Generate strong, unique passwords directly from the extension. Generated passwords can be copied or used when saving a new credential.

Helper icon

The helper icon appears inside username and password fields on websites. Use it to fill matching credentials or save new logins as you enter them.

FAQ

Why isn't autofill working on a website?

Autofill matches credentials to websites using the URL field on the password record. If a credential isn't being offered on a site, open the password record in Hudu and confirm the website's URL is saved in the URL field. You can still access the credential manually by opening the extension and copying the details.

Can Hudu Assist autofill my passwords?

No. The Hudu Assist extension does not have autofilling capabilities. To fill credentials on websites, install the Hudu Password Manager extension.

Do I need both extensions?

That depends on your workflow. If you want the Hudu Assist side panel experience along with password filling and saving, install both extensions. If you only need password functionality, the Hudu Password Manager on its own is all you need.

What happened to saving passwords in Hudu Assist?

Saving new passwords has moved to the Hudu Password Manager. Hudu Assist can still view, copy, and generate passwords, but new logins are now saved through the Hudu Password Manager extension.

Are my existing saved passwords affected?

No. All existing passwords remain in your Hudu instance and My Vault exactly as they were. The change only affects which extension you use to save and fill credentials from your browser.
