Nerdio

The Nerdio Manager for MSP integration with Hudu brings your clients' Microsoft environments into Hudu, syncing Nerdio accounts as companies along with their Intune-managed devices and Microsoft 365 users. Because Nerdio Manager manages all of your client tenants from one place, a single Nerdio integration covers every client account at once, so there is no need to set up a separate integration for each Microsoft tenant.

Before setting up your Nerdio integration, read our Understanding Integrations article to learn basic concepts and useful tips.

What you'll need

  • A Nerdio Manager for MSP installation with MSP-level access
  • A Microsoft Entra ID administrator who can grant admin consent for the Nerdio REST API client
  • Admin or super-admin user role within Hudu

At any time, you can come back to your Hudu admin area → Integrations → Nerdio to make changes to the integration.

Integration features

Hudu's integration with Nerdio Manager for MSP allows you to sync:

  • Accounts into Hudu
    • Each Nerdio client account can be matched to an existing Hudu company, or used to create a new company in Hudu.
  • Devices into Hudu
    • Intune-managed devices for each matched account, including manufacturer, model, operating system, OS version, compliance state, and last sync time. Mobile devices enrolled in Intune are included.
  • Users into Hudu
    • Microsoft 365 users for each matched account.
  • Detailed device information (optional)
    • Serial number, IP addresses, storage, and TPM/BIOS details for each device.

You can use Connected Fields to map information from this integration into Hudu custom fields. This allows data to appear in list views and be fully searchable across your account. Visit Connected Fields for additional information.

What Hudu needs from Nerdio

  • Nerdio Manager URL
  • Tenant ID
  • Client ID
  • Client secret
  • Scope

Nerdio Manager for MSP is installed in your own Azure subscription, so the Nerdio Manager URL is unique to your installation. This is the same URL you use to sign in to Nerdio Manager.

Enabling the Nerdio REST API

  • In Nerdio Manager, navigate to:
System → System Settings → Integrations → REST API
  • Follow the Nerdio wizard to enable the REST API. Nerdio creates the client application for you, so you do not need to build an app registration in Entra ID manually.
  • When prompted, sign in to Azure with an Entra ID administrator account and grant admin consent.
  • Return to Nerdio Manager and copy the tenant ID, client ID, scope, and client secret. Store the client secret securely, as it will be needed in Hudu.

Visit Nerdio's Nerdio Manager Partner API - Getting Started article for additional information on enabling the REST API.

Enabling the Nerdio integration

  • Integrations can be enabled at any time, during Hudu environment testing or in production.
  • Once enabled, integrations can be merged into existing documentation based on predefined rules.
  • This allows you to configure the integration upfront or connect it later as needed.
  • To enable the Nerdio integration:
    • Navigate to the Hudu admin area (Admin → Integrations).
    • Select Nerdio Manager for MSP from the list.

Setting up the integration in Hudu

Step 1. Connect to Nerdio

  • Enter the Nerdio Manager URL
  • Enter the tenant ID
  • Enter the client ID
  • Enter the client secret
  • Enter the scope
    • The scope is specific to your Nerdio installation and uses the format api://{app-id}/.default. Copy it exactly as shown in Nerdio Manager.
  • Select any resource types to skip (optional)
    • Devices
    • Users
  • Select any additional options:
    • Sync detailed device information - Pulls serial number, IP addresses, and additional hardware details for each device
  • Save the settings
Sync detailed device information is off by default. When enabled, Hudu makes one additional request per device to your Nerdio Manager installation. Because Nerdio runs in your Azure subscription, this may increase your Azure usage and can cause throttling for accounts with many devices.

Step 2. Test connection and run an initial sync

  • On the integration overview page, click Test Connection
  • If successful, start an initial sync to bring in Nerdio accounts

Make sure to test the integration for a successful connection before continuing; do not continue until you see a connection successful message.

Step 3. Match Nerdio accounts

  • Before accounts from Nerdio can be brought into Hudu, they must be matched to:
    • Existing companies in Hudu, or
    • New companies you create in Hudu
  • Hudu recommends matching one account first for testing to ensure data imports correctly
  • Navigate to Hudu Admin → Integrations → Nerdio Manager for MSP
  • Open the integration and click Match Companies
  • Review the list of accounts and choose one of the following options:
    • Bulk create and/or match all companies
    • Match an account to an existing Hudu company
    • Create a new matched company in Hudu from a Nerdio account
    • Leave an account unmatched (it and its data will not be imported)

Step 4. Choose where Nerdio data will fill to

  • Select the asset layouts for devices and users
    • All Nerdio devices sync to a single device asset layout. Nerdio does not provide device types, so sort rules are not used for this integration.
    • Asset layouts can be created ahead of time in the Hudu admin area (Admin → Asset Layouts) and must be marked as Active
  • Re-run the integration sync to populate devices and users for the matched companies

FAQ

How is this different from the Microsoft Intune and Office 365 integrations?

The Intune and Office 365 integrations each connect to a single Microsoft tenant, so an MSP needs a separate integration for every client. The Nerdio integration connects once to Nerdio Manager and covers every client account managed there.

Do I need a special Nerdio license or API tier?

No. Any Nerdio Manager for MSP administrator with MSP-level access can enable the REST API. You will also need an Entra ID administrator to grant admin consent. The separate Nerdio Distributor API is not required.

Why is the test connection failing?

Verify that the Nerdio Manager URL, tenant ID, client ID, client secret, and scope match exactly what is shown in Nerdio Manager, and that admin consent was granted in Azure. Also confirm that your Nerdio Manager installation is running in Azure.

Why don't my devices show serial numbers or IP addresses?

Serial numbers, IP addresses, and other hardware details are only synced when Sync detailed device information is enabled in the integration options. Enable the option, save, and re-sync.

Why does a user's email show their sign-in name?

Not every Microsoft 365 user has a primary email address set. When one is missing, Hudu uses the user's other email addresses, and then their user principal name (sign-in name).

Does the integration sync AVD host pools, session hosts, BitLocker keys, or LAPS passwords?

Not currently. The integration syncs accounts, Intune devices, and Microsoft 365 users.

How often do integrations sync?

Native integrations automatically re-sync every 3 hours. You can also use either the global or the card-specific re-sync features to refresh native integration syncs at any point.

Device data is provided through Nerdio's beta API, which Nerdio may change without notice. If device syncing stops working unexpectedly, please contact our support team at support@hudu.com.
