Folge is a desktop guide and documentation creation app for macOS and Windows that automatically captures on-screen workflows and turns them into step-by-step documentation. With the Hudu integration, you can publish guides directly into Hudu as Knowledge Base articles, including all step screenshots.
What This Integration Does
The Folge integration allows you to:
- Automatically publish captured guides into Hudu Knowledge Base articles
- Send articles directly to the correct company and folder structure
- Automatically upload and embed screenshots into articles
- Re-publish existing guides to keep documentation updated
- Connect to multiple Hudu Cloud or self-hosted instances
- Eliminate manual copy/paste documentation workflows
What You'll Need
- Hudu URL
- Your Hudu instance hostname, for example:
https://yourcompany.huducloud.comhttps://docs.example.com
- Hudu API Key
Generate an API key in Hudu via:
Admin → API Keys → New API Key
Configure the Hudu Integration
Step 1: Generate a Hudu API Key
In Hudu:
- Login to your Hudu instance as an Admin
- Select Admin
- Navigate to API Keys
- Create a new API key
- Set:
- Limit scope to → Full access
- Leave the Company selector blank
- Company-restricted API keys can browse folders and articles, but they cannot upload images, so publishing will fail.
- Copy the generated API key
Step 2: Add Your Hudu Account in Folge
In Folge:
- Open the Hudu export setup
- Enter:
- Account name
- Hudu URL
- Hudu API key
- Click Test Connection to verify the credentials before saving
- Click Save
Step 3: Publish a Guide
Once connected:
- Create or open a guide in Folge
- Click Export
- Select Export to Hudu
Choose where the article goes:
- Pick a specific company Knowledge Base, or leave it empty to publish into the Global KB
- Search for an existing folder or article by name
- Expand folders in the folder tree to drill down
Available actions depend on the selected item:
- Folder → Publish here as new
- Article → Overwrite
The article and screenshots will automatically upload into Hudu.
Updating Existing Articles
If Folge has previously published the guide to the selected account, a Last published as section appears with a one-click Update article button.
When re-publishing, Folge cleans up previously uploaded images first so they do not accumulate as orphan attachments on the article.
Multiple Hudu Accounts
Folge supports multiple Hudu accounts.
You can switch between accounts using the picker at the bottom of the export panel.
Folge also remembers which company was last selected per account, so the destination tree opens where you left off.
How Images Are Handled
Folge uploads screenshots using Hudu’s public_photos endpoint, which is also used by Hudu’s editor for inline images.
This ensures images render correctly in both authenticated article views and public share links generated from Hudu.
