This guide walks through connecting a Microsoft Copilot Studio agent to the Hudu MCP (Model Context Protocol) server using OAuth 2.0 authentication and dynamic discovery. Once connected, your Copilot agent can work with Hudu documentation, assets, processes, and activity logs directly from within Copilot Studio.
Visit Hudu MCP Server for the full list of supported tools and current limitations.
Current capabilities include:
- Reading, creating, and editing Hudu articles
- Updating article draft status
- Organizing articles into folders
- Creating and editing assets
- Browsing company records
- Creating and updating processes
- Starting and updating runs, and completing run tasks
- Reading Hudu activity logs
- Managing labels and label types
These steps reflect the new Copilot Studio experience. Microsoft notes this experience is in preview and may change.
Before you begin
- MCP access must be enabled in Hudu under Admin > AI > Hudu MCP
- Your Hudu instance must be reachable over HTTPS from Microsoft's cloud services
- You need access to Copilot Studio in the environment where you'll build the agent
- Pop-ups must be allowed in your browser for the sign-in step
Connecting to Copilot
Create a new agent
- Sign in to Microsoft Copilot Studio and select the environment where you want to create the agent
- Click Agents from the left side panel
- Click New agent
- Enter a name for the agent
Add the Hudu MCP tool
- In the panel on the right, click the + next to Tools
- Select Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Configure the MCP
Fill in the MCP server details.
Server name
Hudu MCP
Server description
Provides access to Hudu articles, assets, processes, and activity logs through MCP
Server URL
https://<hudu_instance_URL>/mcp
Authentication
- For Authentication, select OAuth 2.0
- For Configuration type, select Dynamic (with discovery)
- Click Add
Retrieve the redirect URL
Copilot Studio automatically creates a custom connector for the MCP tool. Hudu only accepts sign-ins from redirect URLs you have approved, so you need to copy this connector's redirect URL into Hudu before connecting.
- In a new tab, go to make.powerapps.com and select the same environment used for the agent in Copilot Studio
- Open More > Discover all > Custom connectors
- Find the connector with the same name as your MCP server and click the Edit (pencil) icon
- Open the Security tab
- Copy the Redirect URL at the bottom of the page
The redirect URL will look similar to:
https://global.consent.azure-apim.net/redirect/cr2de-5fhudu-20mcp-5f...
You do not need to edit or save the custom connector. Only the redirect URL is needed in Hudu.
Configure the redirect URL in Hudu
- In Hudu, go to Admin > AI and open Hudu MCP
- Click + Add Redirect URI
- Paste in the redirect URL copied from Power Apps
- Click Save
Connect the tool to the agent
Return to the Copilot Studio tab to finish adding the tool.
- On Select a connection, click the Connection dropdown
- Click Create new connection
- Enter a display name for the connection (optional)
- Click Create
- Sign in to Hudu in the pop-up window to authorize the connection
- Click Add to add the tool to the agent
The Hudu MCP server will now appear under Tools in the agent's configuration panel.
Test the connection
Microsoft recommends testing the tool before publishing your agent.
- Open the agent's Preview tab
- Ask a question that requires Hudu, such as "List the most recent articles in Hudu"
- Review the activity trace to confirm which Hudu tool was called and what it returned

FAQ
Agents built in the new Copilot Studio experience use usage-based billing through Copilot Credits. Credits can be consumed while building, testing, and running the agent, including when you use the Preview tab. A Microsoft 365 Copilot license does not replace this billing. Visit Microsoft's harnesses overview and the Copilot Studio licensing guide for current details.
Yes. Microsoft recommends keeping the number of MCP servers per agent small, since each server counts toward the agent's tool limit and only a limited number can run in a single conversation.
Troubleshooting
This can happen when a server with the same name already exists in the environment, such as one left over from an earlier attempt. Try a unique server name, or remove the existing server and any related custom connectors in Power Apps before trying again.
If the error continues, confirm your Hudu instance is reachable from the internet and that the /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server and /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource endpoints return data in your browser.
This error means Hudu rejected Copilot Studio's registration request. The most common cause is a redirect URL that hasn't been approved in Hudu. Confirm the exact redirect URL for this MCP server is added under Admin > AI > Hudu MCP, then click Create again. If the error continues, submit a request so our team can review it.
If you renamed or recreated the MCP server, it has a new redirect URL, so add the new one as well.
Make sure the same environment is selected in Power Apps and Copilot Studio. If the connector still doesn't appear, submit a request and our team can help identify the redirect URL.
Allow pop-ups for Copilot Studio in your browser, then click Create again.
