Hudu Bridge is a feature that allows "Host" accounts to delegate access to their environment, enabling seamless information sharing with users from another Hudu environment ("Guest" accounts).
With Hudu Bridge, there's no need to set up individual users from the guest account. Additionally, guest users can access your Hudu environment and information without having to log in directly to your account.
Creating a Bridge:
- Name the Bridge
- Choose a maximum role
- Assign security group
- Create Bridge
Prerequisites
* Must be an Admin or Super-admin to complete the following steps.
Instructions
- Navigate to Admin >> Hudu Bridge and click the + New Bridge button in the top right corner.
Host account side
Setting up the connection:
- Under Side, select Host.
- Name the Bridge connection.
- The name can be anything that you'd like, this will not be shown to the guest account.
- Set Maximum Role:
- The maximum role is an upper limit for users who belong to the guest account. Users who have a role lesser than the maximum role will only have the role that they are assigned within their own account. Users who have a role higher than the maximum role will have a user role capped at the maximum role set.
For example, if I set the maximum role as Editor:
If in the primary account the user has a... | Then their Bridge role will be... |
Spectator | Spectator |
Author | Author |
Editor | Editor |
Admin | Editor |
Super Admin | Editor |
- Assign security group
- In order to allow guest accounts to see information in your account, you must assign all Bridge users to at least one group. Bridge users can be placed into an already existing security group, or you can create a security group specifically for these guest users.
- Click "Create Bridge"
- Create a Passphrase to encrypt the Bride token (Remember this phrase!)
Remember or copy/store the Passphrase in a secure location. You WILL NOT be able to view this again.
- Copy the Bridge token
Copy and store the Bridge Token in a secure location. You WILL NOT be able to view this again.
- Click I have copied and stored the Bridge token.
-
Client side: Share both the Passphrase as well as the Bridge Token with Guest.
-
For security purposes, it's recommended to share Passphrase over the phone or with Hudu's secure one-time sharing located at the top right of the navigation bar.
-
Guest account side
Completing the connection:
- Under Side, select Guest (Connecting to another Hudu instance).
- Choose a Company from the drop-down list.
Companies must be created inside of your own instance prior to setting up a bridge connection (i.e. If attempting to connect to "XYZ MSP", you must create this company inside of the Guest Hudu account first).
- Enter the Passphrase provided by the Host.
- Enter the provided Bridge Token.
- Select "Check Credentials".
If either the provided Passphrase or Bridge Token is incorrect, you will not see the "Credentials validated" toast message in the bottom right and will not be able to move to the next step.
- Click "Create Bridge".
To access the Host instance from the Guest instance:
- Navigate to the company overview of the company that has a bridge to the host instance or click the link to the company in the Hudu Bridge section in Admin.
- Click "Launch Bridge" in the top right corner of the company overview page.
- You will now be "bridged" into the Host instance.
FAQ
Answer: You control which companies Bridge users have access to through the group(s) you put Bridge users in. For example, you may want to create a restrictive group called “Bridge users” and set that group to allow list. This means users in that group will only have access to the companies you add to the group’s allow list.
Answer: To update the group Bridge users belong to, navigate to Admin - Hudu Bridge and select the Bridge you’d like to update. Edit the group for that Bridge as needed and save. Users will automatically be placed in the updated group the next time they access your instance via the Bridge.
